Need a good deal? Check out our "Pre-Cut" page!

Clarity and Colleen, our much-loved Fabric Handlers, tell us that our shelf of seconds is getting a bit full. To help protect them from an avalanche of overflowing fabric (it may sound funny, but have you ever been buried beneath a shelf of fabric? We hope to never be either!) and to encourage more off-the-cuff sewing projects, we're temporarily reducing the prices of our pre-cut and clearance fabrics!

These fabrics are wonderful fabrics, often with just a small hole or minor flaw keeping them from being sold as firsts. The flaws are easy to work around in most cases, and the savings is really phenomenal -- in addition to the regular multiple yardage discount, you also get the following additional discount:

First quality cuts: additional 10% off
Second-quality (a little bit of dirt, small holes, things like that): additional 15% off
Third-quality (more dirt, more holes, seams, etc): additional 20% off

Bear in mind, again, that that's in addition to the multiple yardage discount ... so you could get 20% off for a 10 yard piece of fabric and then an additional 20% off because it's a second!

This is definitely the best way to get a really good deal on some fabrics with very minor flaws. You know our standards here -- we're careful to send out very high-quality products, so our seconds are often what other places would sell as "firsts." But we've built our reputation on our quality and service, and we're working every day to uphold those standards ... so come get some of our seconds and thirds, and maybe pick up some other goodies while you're at it. :)

This additional discount is only valid temporarily, so don't expect it to be around forever. Stock up now! :)

New peace silk for sustainable luxuries, and other new fabrics too.

1765-1766.jpg
We're thrilled to announce that we finally have gloriously colored peace silks in stock. Hand-woven on antique looms by a women's cooperative in India, these fabrics catch the light (and the eye) in a way you just don't see every day. They're astonishingly beautiful. We have a limited supply of each fabric to start with, so if you're thinking about using them for special projects I encourage you to purchase them early -- we hope to get more, but the hand-crafted nature means they can take a while to restock.

Check them out: Saffron Sophisticated Peace Silk, Twilight Amity Peace Silk (look how thin it is -- absolutely perfect for a light scarfwrap or other sophisticated goodies), Garnet Peace Silk, and Incandescent Peace Silk. (The photo to the left shows garnet and saffron, of course.) With the exception of the amazingly thin, fine Amity Peace Silk, the other silks are thick enough to use for simply astounding formal wear -- wedding, prom, or ball dresses, fancy skirts, and the like. They're also great for more casual business attire, like jackets, camisoles, and other work goodies. And if you like to embellish your wardrobe, these fabrics are just perfect for it. I'm so planning on a pair of lounge pants out of the Luminous Sophisticated Peace Silk, with a line of simple patchwork on the outside of each leg made from scraps of the colored silks. It'll be gorgeous, just as soon as I have the time to make it...

We've also added many new knit fabrics made from organic cotton, including some perfect for the upcoming winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and some that our Southern Hemisphere friends will love as they enter their summer season. (keep reading to see what they are)

Our Ribbed Thermal is a fascinating new knit, unlike any I've seen before; it's a classic thermal knit that also has rows of nice, thick ribs adding textural interest and extra warmth and thickness. You'll be loving this fabric all fall and winter long!

Our Byzantine Fleecy Velour makes us want to snuggle up all soft and cozy, and it's such a splendid color too. This is a grand fabric that you won't want to miss.

The Colorgrown Brown Stripe Thermal is one of those amazing deals that we're so glad to be able to offer. Because of a small, intermittent hole every yard or so, this fabric is almost half of the cost that it would normally be ... and just in time for winter, too!

We have matching Smoky Grey Jersey and Smoky Grey Rib Knit; they combine beautifully to make lounging sets, kids' clothes (the rib knit can work as ribbing at the collars and cuffs), and so much more. They're nice, light fabrics, prefect for spring and summer wear or as an inner layer to retain warmth in winter.

There are also three other glorious new jerseys: Bellflower, which is a great bluepurple color, Inky Black, and Castles In The Sky. These are great new fabrics, a bit wider than usual, tubular (I love tubular fabrics, don't you? They're so much fun to work with!), and marvelous colors. Definitely check them out.

Go Vote! (And a freebie from us for doing so)

It's your chance to make a difference, and besides -- if you don't vote you can't complain. Imagine not being able to complain about the direction the country's taking for the next four years!

There's so much happening, so very many issues that matter: global warming, war, equal rights, the economy, organic standards, alternative energy, ... And if you don't believe that your vote will really make a difference in the presidential election, know that it can and does make much more of a difference in local issues and races ... and in many ways those are the ones that will directly and immediately impact you. So go! Vote! We'll all still be here when you get back...

As a bit of incentive, if you vote today or have already voted absentee or as an early voter, ask us for a freebie when you place your (non-swatch-only) order. Just write in the comments field: "I voted -- please give me a freebie for participating in our democratic process!"

And if you're among our many non-US customers who don't vote today, but you vote whenever possible in your country's elections, you qualify too of course.

(This freebie offer is only good through November 5, 2008. We'll pick the freebie, and we'll hope you like it. :)
