Previously called "Heavy Fulled Wool Flannel," this is the same fabric as our Natural Organic Melton Wool (which is also available in colors!), just a different width. Buy whichever one best suits your purposes.
Technically called "coating weight" or "outerwear weight," and weighing 14 ounces per square yard, you'll find so many wonderful ways to use this great fabric. Great for warm winter coats, capes, and making or lining snowgear; you won't want to be without a good stash of this fabric each winter. Absolutely perfect for puddle pads to protect mattresses and other upholstered surfaces -- finish the edges with wide cloth tape, serge them, or just leave them alone and deal with the minimal fraying. (The fabric manufacturer has an exclusive agreement with a maker of puddle pads, that's how good the material is!) You'll find this is a ready-made blanket as well -- the 80" width means you won't even need a seam for most standard-sized beds. Finish the edges as described above, and consider doubling the wool for extra warmth. (Some people choose to use this wool instead of batting for a warm, effective inner layer for baby quilts, etc.) It's also perfect for baby sleepsacks, which can make the difference between a cold, wakeful baby and a good night's sleep for everyone!
Individual rolls can have different properties -- slightly different weights, feels, etc.
Made from 50% organic Australian merino and 50% organic domestic wool, this fabric combines the best of both worlds. The fulling process produced about 20% shrinkage, and washing on hot can felt the material a bit more but much less than had the cloth not been pre-treated.
