Large-scale and almost mesmerizing, you'll see what you want to in this great fabric -- we see hearts, butterflies, shells (of course), castles, trees, stars, the chaotic roar of the surf, and so much more. Printed on a glorious hemp/organic cotton twill, hand-screened in New England with waterbased, high-light-fast, pigment dyes, free of heavy metals. Like all our fabrics, these marvelous materials are free from chemical finishes and flame-retardants.
The two sisters behind Oliveira Textiles have created a line of ocean-inspired sustainable fabrics that are vibrant, bold, and fun. Use just one, or combine them to make a real statement. The color is difficult to photograph or scan accurately, but on my monitor the image to the right is closest to the real thing; your monitor may, of course, vary.
This is a very large-scale pattern; the repeat is 27"v x 18"h. The top picture shows an 8" ruler, to give you a better idea of the scale; the next picture down is the designer's image and is not a photograph or scan of the actual fabric. The bottom picture shows you the pattern from selvage to selvage.
The fabric is softer than you might expect from a handprinted material, and it really has a great look and feel. I love the hemp/cotton twill, as the cotton's softness nicely complements hemp's durability to create a material you'll really be proud to display in your house or workspace. The fabric is 59" wide, with a printed width of approximately 54.5". At 16.5 ounces per linear yard, the fabric is 10.5 ounces per square yard.
