Woven wide for extra versatility, this plain-weave cloth is very useful! Tightly woven once washed, it substitutes for light canvas in many applications: workpants, shopping bags, upholstery, dog/cat bed covers, kids' toy tipis and tents, ... Make a summer awning to keep the sun off, a shower curtain, and placemats for a casual meal.

Although the fabric appears to be fairly loosely woven when it first arrives, it tightens and thickens upon washing. That's because it's a greige fabric -- loom-state cloth that has not received dry and wet finishing. The difference is noticeable and can indeed be preferable in situations where a stiffer fabric is desired.

This fabric tends to have more dirt spots than finished fabrics do (and even the occasional grease spot), so don't be surprised if it's less than perfect. It's still eminently useable!
