Much to my bloodthirsty six-year-old's dismay, I'm not calling this Blackbeard's Fleece and talking about the hemp and lit matches he wove into his beard before battles. Oh, wait, I guess I just did, ah well. Six year olds must be indulged on occasion, especially when fascinating historical facts about fibers can be incorporated into the stories...
Regardless of the name, this heavy fleece is a treasure indeed. Especially coveted because of its color (it's rarer to find dark colors of heavy fabrics, because they take more dye... and yes, this does use low-impact, fiber-reactive dyes like always, of course), you'll also appreciate the fabric because it's nicely soft and cozy and so incredibly versatile.
Choose this cloth for athletic wear (the best sweat pants imaginable), casual attire, warm winter goodness (bathrobes, nightgowns, etc), dresses, and so much more. There's minimal stretch (less than 25%), and it's great for so many forms of fabric embellishment: applique, fabric painting, embroidery, etc. It's reversible, too, for greater flexibility -- choose whether you want the fleecy side facing in or out, depending on the look and feel you're after.
At 18 ounces per linear yard, the fabric weighs 11.2 ounces per square yard.
The picture's not true to color, simply because it's difficult to show the fleecy softness in a black fabric -- it shows a flat black image. So imagine the true black while enjoying a hint of the fabric, okay? Thanks!
