As a completely unimportant but yet interesting fact, did you know that both "gingko" and "ginkgo" are accepted spellings for the tree? And this, from wikipedia, was fascinating to me: "For centuries it [the ginkgo tree] was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in Eastern China, in the Tian Mu Shan Reserve. However, recent studies indicate high genetic uniformity among ginkgo trees from these areas, arguing against a natural origin of these populations and suggesting that the ginkgo trees in these areas may have been planted and preserved by Chinese monks over a period of about 1000 years. Whether native ginkgo populations still exist has not been demonstrated unequivocally."
Harmony Susalla says Gingko's design was "created in celebration of my 40th birthday. It is a tribute to the Ginkgo tree which is one the best examples of a living fossil, or species that have survived all major extinction events." (See the other Harmony fabrics here.)
Ginkgo brings a stunning combination of color and pattern to so many creations; it's glorious for full skirts, sundresses, baby slings, and so much more.
In your house and craft projects Gingko is unparalleled: brighten a small apartment kitchen/dining room with accessories including curtains, an apron, oven mitts, placemats, and napkins, or freshen up your room with a duvet cover and pillow shams. Gingko's bright leaves are gorgeous when used for pockets and accent pieces too, like in our star pillows.
Printed in India according to Global Organic Textile Standards, you can be sure the fabric was made in an environmentally- and socially-aware fashion.
At 13.6 ounces per linear yard, this fabric weighs approximately 4.4 ounces per square yard. This is a difficult fabric to photograph accurately, since showing the true scarlet color tends to make the very-slightly-tinted leaves look a deep pink. We've tried to strike a good balance, but as always you are encouraged to request a swatch before purchasing actual yardage.
