Inari is the Japanese spirit of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry and worldly success. The association with rice is obvious in inarizushi -- sushi rice in a sweetened fried tofu wrapper. (The tofu is meant to appeal to foxes, and the roll's pointed corners evoke fox ears. Have I mentioned how helpful I find Wikipedia?)
This pattern's intricately-drawn design evokes closely-packed rice (or even ant eggs -- but in a good way!). The creamy off-white material's subtle but substantial texture blends perfectly with the dark charcoal grey of the Inari pattern.
