Your kids will love this terrific tipi! Moms will appreciate how easy it is, to sew, set up (in 15 seconds!), and store (hide it in a closet or under a bed). Kids, though, will absolutely adore having their own space for so many adventures. Use it as a sun-shade for hot summer afternoons, as an imagination kick-start on grey winter days. It works inside and out, and since it's made of fabric it's washable -- always a plus when kids are involved! Big enough for an adult and a child, the pattern takes 4 yards of 60" wide fabric. The pattern recommends PVC pipes covered with crutch tips for the poles; if you have reasons to avoid PVC (environmental or otherwise), you can use lightweight wooden poles instead. (We used 6-foot bamboo poles from the local garden shop, with rubber bands to connect them on top.)
