Combine this pattern, several yards of knit fabric, and a little bit of sewing time ... voila! You'll have everything you need for a basic wardrobe that'll take your little one from infancy to two years old. (And if your babe's born a bit early, don't fret about clothing -- preemie size is included too!) Patterns include a knotted hat, booties, shorts, pants, and multiple styles of shirt (crossover and snap, in both short and long sleeves). Add some creativity to the basic ideas (colorblocking? appliques? matching cuffs on the shirt and pants?) and you can create an entire wardrobe quickly, easily, and so satisfyingly.
Because you're dealing with baby sizes here, several of the items can easily be made with scraps of fabric (the hat and booties are a perfect example of this). Do consider shrinkage when making garments, or prewash to ensure that you'll be safe. The yardage chart below is generous; you'll find that judiciously laying out the pieces leaves you with plenty of fabric to spare ... which means you'll be able to make even more clothes, which every baby needs!
The pattern is designed for stretch knit fabrics only, and suggests interlock, jersey, knit terry, and velour. Notions required include 1/4" elastic and hook and loop tape for the booties, Size 14 snaps or 3/8" buttons (4 for Preemie - 9 M; 5 for other sizes) and 1/8 yard fusible interfacing for shirt A, and 1/2" wide elastic for pants and shorts.
The clothes pictured to the left are made from our Optic White Vertical 3x3 Jersey and Lime Steppes fabrics. (Obviously the colors are a bit off in the bottom two pictures; we'll try to get better pictures in the future.)
