None of the items requires more than 1/4 yard of fabric except the Femme-Fold Sanitary Pad, which calls for 1/2 yard. Some are so small that they can be made from scraps, which is always a plus! Several call for waterproof fabric, again not more than 1/4 yard per item. (Felted wool jersey can frequently be used where waterproof fabric is called for, though not always.) You'll need 3/4" hook-and-loop tape for several items (though the pattern designer doesn't recommend it, well-thought-out snaps can substitute in most places if you react to the hook-and-loop tape), and size 14 snaps are used for the Panty Wrapper, She Shell, and Femme-Fold Sanitary Pad. The manufacturer's suggested fabrics are:
Contoured Nursing Pads, Sanitary Pads, Panty Liners, She Shell, Femme-Fold Sanitary Pad: Interlock, Jersey, Knit Terry, French Terry, Flannel, Light-weight Twill, Lace Fabric for outer layer optional on Contoured Nursing Pads. 100% cotton is recommended.
Water-proof layer: Ultrex®, Supplex® and Polyurethane Laminated fabrics, any pliable and light-weight water-proof fabric, felted wool.
Panty Wrapper: Light-weight fabrics, knit or woven, that are cotton, polyester or blends, such as Interlock, Jersey, Flannel, or Calico.
The samples we made, to the left, used the following fabrics: The larger Contoured Nursing Pads were made from felted Natural Unfinished Organic Wool Jersey and Rich Natural Heavy Flannel; the smaller nursing pads were made from Colorgrown Brown Microstripe Fleece and Rich Natural Heavy Flannel. The assorted pads are made from Rich Natural Heavy Flannel, felted wool jersey, Pinstripe Flannel, and Cactus Gingham Check Flannel, with Natural Sherpa adding absorbency to some of the pads.
