Have you ever wanted to quilt, but been vaguely intimidated at the very idea? (Or, even worse, have you purchased actual books on quilting, like a certain NearSea founder who shall remain nameless, only to be frightened away by all the work and equipment involved?) Fear no more -- this pattern was specifically designed to remove the mystery from quilting. Clear descriptions combine with a cheerful design to make this a pattern you won't want to miss! No special equipment is required (though you will find cutting the squares easier with a rotary cutter and sewing ruler or straight edge), and it's easy enough for even sewing novices. A bit of patience is a good thing, though, as is so often the case!
The finished size is approximately 45" by 60", which is just right for a crib, toddler bed, play quilt, or security blanket that'll be treasured for years. Suitable for both wovens and knits (though we recommend woven fabrics if you're a beginner, just to reduce the frustration that can accompany stretchy knits). Add a heart-shaped applique to the back of the quilt (pattern included), to touch your little one's heart when s/he's tucked in all cozy and warm.
Materials list: 3/4 yard of fabric A and coordinating fabric B for the blocks; 1/2 yard of inner border fabric C and 1/2 yard of outer border fabric D; 1 3/4 yard of coordinating backing fabric; 1 yard of coordinating binding fabric; a 3" x 3" scrap of fabric for the heart applique; 45" by 60" of quilt batting; 1 skein of coordinating embroidery floss.
Half the purchase price of this pattern will be donated to Project Linus, who you also might want to support with a gift of a quilt or two once you realize how easy they are to make and how good the cause is.
