Luxurious, shade-grown cotton has been cultivated by indigenous farmers of the Andes Mountains since the times of Inca Kings, and we're now offering it to you. Hand-picked, hand-ginned, and hand-brushed for a light smooth fiber, women then hand-spin the fibers into a thick yarn. They then re-spin this chunky yarn with a thin cotton thread for an extra-nice texture. Small lots are colored with natural dyes in gorgeous colorfast tints. The dye materials are harvested under sustainable conditions and without the risk of depreciating the soil and natural environment. The sage yarn is colored with the roots and leaves of the Molle (Brazilian Pepper) plant, and the mustard yarn is colored by the leaves alone. The rose is colored with a dye made from Cochinilla, an insect that lives on the prickly pear cactus, and the peach is dyed with the roots of a tropical shrub known as the Ratania.

The rose has been discontinued, unfortunately.

Natural variances in dye lots may result in slight differences in shades, and swatches may vary a bit from the skeins you receive. Please plan to purchase all the yarn for a project at once to avoid possible shade differences.

You'll find this yarn knits nicely (and quickly) with a #10 needle. Great for accessories, bulky sweaters, and crafts. Sold in 50 meter skeins.
