Chinese Jacket

This classic jacket in three lengths and with a front or asymmetrical opening is descended from a formal court robe of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Since then, the garment has been simplified into a truly versatile design with different options for unusual closures. Pattern includes heat transfer design for traditional embroidered motifs and instructions for embroidery.

Sized for misses 6-16, this pattern, Folkwear 114, is one of their most popular and it's easy to see why! Suggested fabrics: Silk or silk-like synthetics, light or medium-weight cotton, or lightweight wool. Do not use fabrics with nap, pile, or one-way designs. With 45" wide fabric, all sizes use 2 3/8 yards for a short length version of View A and 3 1/8 yards for a fingertip version. View B will need 2 yards (short length) and 3 yards (fingertip) of each a main and a lining fabric, as well as 7/8 or 1 yard of contrast fabric for facing. View C needs up to 3 3/8 yards for the large mid-calf version and 1 3/8 yard of facing fabric. The pattern includes directions for making your own frog closures and bias tape.

Since the 1970s, Folkwear patterns have been used by theatre and dance costumers, historic reenactors, art-to-wear-aficionados, and anyone who enjoys dressing up. Folkwear patterns are based on vintage fashions and traditional ethnic garments for an authentic look. But with a fresh eye and creative touch, these timeless styles can become exciting and trend-setting wearable art today.
