My favorite parts about this bag are all the pockets, and the unique look of the cross-over design. The cross-over creates three large pockets, and there are six smaller ones inside the main section. It's perfect for a large purse (finally places to put your wallet, cell phone, makeup, toys for the kids or yourself, a water bottle, a book or notebook, and more), a craft bag, a diaper bag, or a bag to hold all of a musician's goodies. Really, who wouldn't love it?
The pattern calls for 1 yard of a main print and 1 1/3 yard of the contrast print (including handles), 1 large button, 4 yards of 22" wide lightweight interfacing, a scrap of heavy interfacing for the handle, size 16 or 18 sewing machine needle, eight inches of 1" wide fold-over elastic, 3 yards of double-fold bias tape, 12" of vinyl of any thickness, 14" of ric-rac, and thread. That said, I plan on making an organic version that substitutes sustainable materials for the vinyl and other non-organic options. Suggested fabrics are at least 45" wide, cotton calico or other light fabrics. If you choose something heavier (denim, twill, etc), eliminate the interfacing. The fold-over elastic is to bind the top of the bottle pockets cut from fabric; you can instead choose to use vinyl for the pockets and edge them with bias tape. You'll need four yards of bias tape if you choose that option. If, like me, you're an organic fanatic, you'll find another option entirely ... but I may have mentioned that already.
