Thinner Organic Cotton Cording -- Full Spool
288 Yards
Imagine all the things you could do with an entire spool of our thinner organic cotton cording! People have been asking for this cording for years, and it took tons of looking and persuading but we're absolutely thrilled to finally be able to offer it!

The natural color of undyed, unbleached, organic cotton, this cording is about 2/16" thick (the thicker cording is, of course, thicker).

This cording is quite a lot of fun -- it's great for waistbands, of course. One of my favorite ways to do waistbands, especially for my skinny kids (and how they got that way I'm just not sure!), is to use both elastic and a drawstring -- that way the waistband is more adjustable and more forgiving of day-to-day fluctuations in size. But don't neglect cording's other options -- so many, including:

  • Other drawstring options, in gift bags and the like.
  • Doll hair, especially in braids or dreadlocks -- this is almost like ready-made dreads, isn't it?
  • Tying closed a book that you've covered with a gorgeous fabric.
  • Great for embellishing wrapped gifts -- so much nicer than the disposable ribbon you'd find at your local drugstore, and it's perfect with furoshiki.
  • Adding weight and interest at the edge of a tablecloth or any other item that needs help draping properly.
  • Using for drapery tie-backs for casual drapes.
  • Try using it for Chinese knots -- I haven't tried it yet, but isn't it a tempting concept?
  • Teach kids braiding -- it's always easier, in my experience, when working with something thicker than a basic yarn to start with.
  • Use the cording to write letters or spell a word on fabric (on a quilt, a blanket, a shirt, or any other creation), and then sew it down with thread. That'll give you an added bit of 3-dimensionality along with visual appeal!
There's so much more, of course -- that's just off the top of my head, but doesn't it make you want to start playing? Because it's 100% cotton, the edges will fray unless you sew them shut or tie a knot in them -- this is to be expected of all cording, but it's something to be aware of. Only we are offering this cording, so enjoy yet another NearSea Naturals exclusive.

Also available by the yard, and available wholesale for our business customers. The cording is made in the US from certified organic cotton.

As always, be careful when using cording -- use common sense, don't use cording in places where babies or children could get to it and hurt or strangle themselves, be sure to follow all applicable government regulations when making items for sale, etc. (And on a practical note, if making something with a drawstring you're much less likely to lose the drawstring or have trouble with it if you sew down the middle in the back of your item, catching the drawstring so it can't be pulled all the way through.)

Made in the US.
