At less than 1/2" wide, the ribbon is a great width for crafts like doll hair, kids' braiding projects, applique/decoration work, and so much more. Use it as the drawstring for simple gift bags, or to do intricate weaving projects. Combine with colors of our Wider Heirloom Batik Ribbon for great effects too! And did I ever tell you about the amazing craft quilt my kids' grandma made for them when Neil was little, incorporating things like a shoelace-tying section, braiding practice, bead threading, etc? This ribbon would have been absolutely perfect for it, and I remember how frustrated she was at the complete absence of anything similar in the market all those years ago...
Hand-batiked in North Carolina by the wonderful folks at Fiberactive Organics, this glorious ribbon is perfect for so many projects. You'll appreciate the hand-dyed qualities; just as in any fine batiked item, you can see areas with more and less dye, etc. It gives a wonderful, heirloom quality to any project. (The bottom picture shows some more heavily-contrasting ribbon bits -- the amount of color contrast can vary greatly within each piece.)
The modified batik process is performed using low-immersion dyes and the water is reclaimed. No wax is used in this process. Our friends at Fiberactive say "One mission of Fiberactive is to provide a market for organic cotton in order to promote organic farming techniques throughout the world and especially here in the US. Our second mission is to enable artists to make a good living from their craft and keep the traditional role of artists in our society alive and well."
The ribbon is available in multiple dyed colors, peroxide-whitened Soft White, and natural; the colors are:
Requesting a swatch comes with small pieces of all the colors; you don't need to specify which one you're interested in. Because the ribbon has been washed in the dyeing process, the colored ribbons are a bit softer than the natural, undyed ones.
The ribbon's made in the US, and as we said above it is dyed in the US as well using very eco-friendly dyeing processes.
NEW: Bright Red is an additional color now available. More flashy, this color is a more vibrant red than the Scarlet Daylily.
