Perfect for anyone who's expecting a new baby, this kit will make sustainable sewing easy and unthreatening. KwikSew's Sewing For Baby and a package of Kwik-Trace Cloth combine with a wonderful selection of fabrics to give you both inspiration and the tools you'll need to carry through with those ideas.
Although the fabrics can vary, the kit will always include one-yard pieces of five different fabrics, including at least one jersey, flannel, rib knit, and fuzzy fabric (terry, fleece, and the like). The Undyed kit contains only organic cotton fabrics that are cotton's natural, cream color. The Responsibly Dyed kit jazzes things up a bit with the addition of a couple fabrics that are colored with low-impact dyes (in gender-neutral colors -- no pinks are included, though blue thankfully seems to have evolved finally to work for both boys and girls.) All fabrics are labeled for easy reordering. We're also including three feet of our nickel-free snap tape in the smaller, baby size, to make your creations easier and more enjoyable.
With the KwikTrace cloth and KwikSew Book, you'll be able to sew for babies from newborn to 18 months old, using different sizes of each pattern as baby grows. The book explains how to alter patterns to better fit a specific body, and a little bit of embellishment (buttons, applique, fabric painting, etc) goes a very long way towards personalization and creating an oh-so-professional look.
The pictures on the left are simply examples of some outfits you can make with the fabrics in this kit. There was, of course, quite a lot of fabric leftover with which to sew more goodies.
The kit is at least a $113 value, so you save quite a bit of money. The kits make marvelous gifts as well (we've had multiple people who plan to give a kit to grandparents as a not-so-subtle hint and to ensure that whatever Grandma or Grandpa makes will be natural and good to have around a baby). They're nicely presented in a biodegradable plastic bag.
