As many years as I've used the color name "burnt umber," but I never knew that there's actually a burnt umber pigment that's made by heating up -- or, yes, burning -- umber. (In case you, like me, didn't know what umber is, wikipedia tells us. (They're always an authoritative source, I'm sure you'd agree.) Umber is "a dark brown clay containing oxides of iron and manganese, [...] used for oil and water colour paint."
So now that we know what burnt umber is, we can begin to really appreciate this glorious jersey, which is gorgeous either alone or when paired with other fabrics in the ML Marsh Collection: Organic Designer Fabrics. Marylou Marsh describes the color as, "A true fall color, not overwhelmingly yellow or hyper orange; it is a mellow orange, embodying the essence of fall leaves. This color could work with any color type. "
You'll find this material a much-needed addition to so many wardrobes. The intense hue is perfect for fall and winter wear while also adding an unexpected touch of color during the other seasons. It layers splendidly, too.
Marylou chose this medium-weight jersey because, as she said, "The small amount of stretch and nice body make this fabric a versatile workhorse, good for basic tees, dresses, button-down shirts, shorts, casual pants, sportswear, the list goes on..."
It's also splendid for camisoles, shirts, nighties, underwear, baby outfits, and so much more. (We do encourage you to consider going beyond the basics -- you just may find your efforts rewarded!)
As with all of our dyed fabrics, this gorgeous choice is colored using low-impact fiber-reactive dyes. At 10 ounces per linear yard, the fabric weighs approximately 6.3 ounces per square yard.
