As a kid in Upstate New York, my favorite pants were the ones lined with flannel. The very best ones, though, the ones I reached for day after day, were lined with red flannel; somehow the color made them warmer and more fun. Isn't it amazing what the power of suggestion can do?

Of course, at that age I didn't realize how lucky I was to have parents and grandparents who would make things like flannel-lined pants and jackets, cozy flannel sheets, and flannel shirts for me; I simply luxuriated in the warmth and love that surrounded me. Now, as the person who is doing the sewing, I have much more appreciation for both the labor involved and the materials needed. And material like this gorgeous flannel is definitely welcome in our house.
